From molecules to cities —
let’s widen the question together.
Combining the expertise of each of our sites in Japan and the US — organoids, data science, healthcare design and urban design — we run joint research with companies, research institutions and local governments.

In a joint programme with Kyoto University’s CiRA, we combined iPS-derived liver organoids with genetic data to predict susceptibility to drug-induced liver injury (2020), and used vascular organoids to uncover how COVID-19 becomes severe (2023).

As part of Danaher’s Beacons programme, a multi-year collaboration to make human liver organoids ready for preclinical drug testing, using cells from donors of diverse backgrounds.

We run the Human Organoid project in the open at Miraikan’s research area. Through the citizen-science study “#MinnanoKanzo Research”, we look at how liver health relates to genes, lifestyle and happiness.
